As with Morpheus, the god of sleep and dreams, Night is another villainous character in The Faerie Queene.

Night is the mother of multiple characters in The Faerie Queene, including:

Since Night is associated with darkness, the opposite of light, there was a negative association with this entity. She was seen as an antagonist to the one true church, or with Christianity in general.

Night helps Duessa halt the progress of the Redcrosse knight and Una, and spends most of her time in hell, an appropriately dark place for a dark goddess.
