Trompart is one of the few intentionally comedic characters in Edmund Spenser’s The Faerie Queene. He first appears in book 2, where he runs into Braggadochio after the latter stole Sir Guyon’s horse.

Trompart serves as Braggadochio’s squire, and we learn that he is easily able to manipulate his master throughout the text, demonstrating an inverse of what a true relationship between a knight and a squire should be.

His master, Braggadochio, is obsessed with external ideals of what a knight should be, and Trompart does little to dissuade him.
